I recently purchased a 12 inch mirror blank and grinding kit from Got Grit. Even though I was given the good advice not to start with a 12 inch mirror, I went ahead anyway. Bottom line first: with the help of excellent internet advice from Bartles, Waite, Lockwood, Dobson and the Stellafane ATM site, everything came out fine. It took 16 hours of grinding and 23 hours of polish and figuring to get a mirror that Foucault tested at around 1/8 wave error according to the Figure XP software I plugged the Foucault numbers into. If this is your first rodeo with a hunk of glass, by all means start first by reading the Stellafane ATM mirror making site.
If I can do this on the first go, so can you. I highly recommend the Got - Grit blanks and kits.
